JumpStart

The Jump Start is a rearing system that helps pullets acclimatize to any of the Vencomatic aviary systems, minimizing bird stress and improving production. With the Jump Start the birds are introduced to vertical space at a much younger age. The area they occupy is initially small and flat, but then increases vertically as the birds grow. This vertical space is limited at first as well, but opens up as the birds get older. By the time the birds are at 18 weeks of age when they would usually be introduced to the production barn, they are already trained to use the varying levels of the system, and are very comfortable in the environment.

The key to having the birds be successful in the multi-level aviary systems is to rear them in a similar system. This is where the Jumpstart from Vencomatic makes its case. By rearing the birds in a similar structure, adapted for chicks, they learn jumping and perching right from the beginning. As they grow more and more of the system can be made available to them, until finally the entire house can be opened up to them, and the transition of pullet to layer is smooth and almost immediate.

The stress of moving birds that have not been reared in the system can be extreme for a number of reasons. First there is the obvious moving and adjusting to the freedom to not only move horizontally on the floor, but to jump up as well. But also at this stage the bird is the equivalent of the hormonal teenager, and the stress of rapid development into productive layers adds a further level of trauma to the experience.

The Jump Start gives the birds a head start to get them into the production system swiftly. There is no time needed for acclimatization. Once trained in the JumpStart the birds can utilize all the space, and reach the feed and water lines placed throughout the aviary system. The birds are ready and able to produce as soon as they are physically able. And that makes for happy birds, and very happy producers.
